With only one episode left before the How I Met Your Mother series finale, fans are desperate for any answers they can get on how the show will answer the question about why Ted has been telling his kids a nine-year long story about how he met their mother.

Mother's Name Not Revealed Until Final Episode?

While most fan theories circulate around the potential death of the mother, a new theory has emerged that has the mother alive and well, while Ted will be suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, and is telling his kids the story so his memories can live on with them.

The new theory stems from a post made by a Reddit user after the episode Vesuvius aired back on March 3. While most fans speculated that a key moment between the Mother and Ted, where Ted gets teary-eyed over a mother not being present at her daughter's wedding, was a clear sign that the Mother would die in the series finale episode, this Reddit user posted that maybe fans had it wrong.

Ted Rekindles Flame With Robin?

"She keeps telling Ted to stop living in the past, for him to stop reliving all of the good parts of HIS life that he needs to look forward, not backwards...The entire show is about Ted looking back on his life, looking at all the good and the bad parts. Was he right to do this? Was he a good person when...?" the Reddit user wrote. "That's not normal for someone who think they're going to lose their soul mate, that's what someone does when they think they don't have a future."

Another hint that indicates Ted has Alzheimer's is the faces his son and daughter have worn throughout the entire series. As the seasons have worn on, the kid's faces have grown increasingly more annoyed and bored. International Business Times speculates that the kids wouldn't do that if the stories were about their mother. The website also speculates that the kids don't know their father is ill either, and that perhaps he will tell them after he finishes the story.

The most recent episode of the series, Gary Blauman, could also lend some credibility to the theory. Towards the end of the episode, Ted gives a quick two-minute update on the lives of several characters who were important figures on the show, but weren't as central to the story. One such character is a woman who was previously known as "Blah-Blah," a woman Ted had dated during an episode of season three. She was referred to as "Blah-Blah," because Ted couldn't remember her name at all, until now.

"I'm not sure what happened to 'Blah-Blah,' but I like to think that wherever she is, she...CAROL! Her name was Carol!" he said during the episode.

However, the show's director, Pam Fryman, insists that fans will need to wait and see what happens because none of their theories are truly panning out.

"People are so sure and they have such an opinions about what they think is going to happen, but nobody is 100 percent right," she said to TV Guide March 18. "I think people will be happy with the way this plays out. It's a great ending."

How I Met Your Mother airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
