Penny Dreadful finished off its first season on Showtime last month, but already the network is assuring fans that season two is sure to top it.

Actor Reeve Carney Reveals Favorite 'Penny Dreadful' Set

"It's gonna get bigger next year," claimed Showtime president David Nevins at the Television Critics Association's recent press tour. While the president of the network refused to reveal specifics regarding plot, he did open up a little about the players involved.

Nevins divulged that Helen McCrory (Harry Potter, The Queen), who portrayed Madame Kali in two episodes during the drama's first season, will be featured as a substantially more significant figure in the fixture. "There's a great antagonist next year played by Helen McCRory…" explained Nevins, "Season one's antagonist was sort of an inhuman character. It'll be old to have a more human antagonist".

Creator John Logan Talks 'Penny Dreadful' Season 2

Will Madame Kali mean trouble for Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and his band of misfits. Will she take an interest in Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), who memorably overshadowed Madame Kali's séance act with a genuine connection to the dead?

McCrory is no stranger to playing antagonists. The 45-year-old Westminster native portrayed Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, one of the more prominent Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) followers.

While Penny Dreadful begins production for season two next month, for now the cast and crew are headed to Comic Con, where they will appear Thursday, July 24 for a panel discussion.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
