Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) were reluctantly drawn together on The Originals upon finding out that they were having a child together, but with baby Hope now hidden for her own safety, the new parents will find their relationship to be a very different one on The CW series.

In an interview with Joslyn Davis from Clevver News (featured below), Morgan talked a little bit about what it's like now that Hayley, who spent the whole of Season 1 pregnant, is now a mother without her child.

"We're gonna see Klaus take on more of a mentor-student role with Hayley," explained Morgan, referring to Hayley's new vampire-werewolf hybrid status. As a hybrid himself, Klaus is more than qualified to understand where she is coming from.

"She's struggling to come to terms with her sense of identity…" he added, "so Klaus is gonna, in his own way, help her come to terms with that."

As for a potential romance between the two? Morgan doesn't see it happening, at least not anytime soon. "For me there's more of a sort of brother sister-potential with those characters, I don't see it becoming a romantic interest necessarily for him."

According to the actor, Hayley is probably better off as a sister to Klaus than anything else. "You know it would be bad for her if it did [become romantic]," he laughed, "Because that's ended badly in every case for him over the years."

Morgan was reluctant to tease out much more for the upcoming season, in spite of the fact that they've already completed production on three of the episodes. In defense of keeping tight-lipped, Morgan laughed, "I want you to watch the show."

So how would Morgan describe what's ahead for The Originals? Davis asked him to give it in one word, and he did so without hesitating. "Epic," declared the actor.

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
