While it seems like the popular thing to do now is ask every British actor whether they would like to join the James Bond franchise, one name that showed support would be a big get for the series and make for a stellar character.

Is This 'Downton Abbey' Star Headed To Try & Woo James Bond?

The Wire and Pacific Rim star Idris Elba did a Reddit Ask Me Anything on Saturday as promotion of his latest movie, No Good Deed, and answered one fan's question about becoming the most famous spy in Britain.

When posed the question as to whether he would take the role of James Bond if he were asked, Elba responded with "Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely." Elba is next set to voice Shere Khan in Disney's live adaptation of The Jungle Book.

As of now, there isn't anything to say current Bond Daniel Craig is leaving, but the actor is only set-up for two more movies and many think he will move on from the role after those. Names like Tom Hardy have surfaced as potential replacements, which could happen around the year 2018.

Elba would be another inspired choice as he has shown in films like Pacific Rim that he is adept in fighting and has a certain class to him. While the actor is a star in television with hits like The Wire and Luther, he has yet to find that massive break in film even though he has turned in award-worthy work.

While his casting would likely spark controversy since he would be the first black Bond, it would also give the franchise a dignified actor who could bring in just as many fans as Craig.
