Showtime's Penny Dreadful returned to the surface this week after spending three days filming underground.

Showtime Turns Up The 'Action' For The 2nd Season Of 'Penny Dreadful'

On Tuesday, director James Hawes offered up a pic on Twitter of their latest location, which included an old archway at the end of a snowy "London" street.

A Shadowy Figure Is 'Lurking' On 'Penny Dreadful'

Of course, the snow featured in the photograph is just about as real as the "London" cobblestone beneath it. Filmed in Dublin, the Showtime series spent weeks prepping snow machines to give the set the proper look for the premiere, which will take place in the winter. Hawes was certainly glad to be back above ground. He'd been wary of their three-day stint in darkness and even voiced such concern on Twitter last Thursday.

Based on a number of set photos and teasers posted by the director, it seems that the Season 2 premiere will involve most if not all of the cast, both old and new, as well as some pretty impressive scenery.

Hawes has been careful not to reveal any of the cast in costume or makeup, though he has noted who's been on set together on a number of occasions.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second, longer season in 2015.
