Eva Green has been getting quite a bit of attention for her role as Vanessa Ives on Showtime's Penny Dreadful, but contrary to her character's bold nature Green considers herself to be rather shy.

The actress opened up about her personal life with London Live on Thursday (featured below), dishing on why she first went to England to become an actress.

"I kind of always loved London. I moved there very early on," she explained, "Also because my mum's [Marlene Jobert] quite famous in France, so I didn't want people to say 'oh, she's the daughter of this actress, it's easy for her' I wanted to have my own thing."

Penny Dreadful films in Dublin and when the actress discussed what it is she does when she's back at home in London, Green revealed that she doesn't really go to parties or hit the town. Instead she prefers to stay at home, or perhaps go for a walk in the park.

"I'm quite shy and I'm not good at 'blah blah' and plastic smiles and all that," she revealed, adding with a smile, "I'm like a bear in my cave and I kind of hide."

When asked directly whether or not she would ever consider getting behind the camera for film or photography, Green bypassed the question of film and launched into her love of surrealist photography and how it is certainly something she'd be interest in pursuing.

With the question of going behind the scenes for film still hanging, there's no telling whether the star will someday decide to direct an episode of her popular Victorian supernatural drama.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
