There really hasn't been a bigger pop culture phenomenon this year than Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. What entered as a possible floor has now become one of the studio's hottest properties, but what does the director have up his sleeve for the sequel?

Is Matthew McConaughey Joining The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' In The Sequel?

In an interview with Indiewire on Thursday, director James Gunn talked about his work so far on the second movie and what fans could expect to see with another trip into the galaxy with these characters.

"I had the basic story for number two while I was working on number one, and perhaps even beyond that," he said.

"So [the sequel is] gonna answer a lot of questions that are proposed in the first one, and we'll be able to get to know some of the characters we didn't get to know in the first one a little bit more, and we might meet a few new characters too."

Gunn has said before that questions such as "Who is Peter Quill's father?" would be answered in the sequel with many theories going around about characters who could be playing Chris Pratt's character's dad.

But the comments also articulate that the film is not set to abide to Marvel's continuity like the other features are and the movie will be an exploration more into these characters and their lives rather than how they fit into the whole universe.
