During Marvel's announcements on Tuesday, they dropped the bomb that Avengers 3 would be a two-part film, titled Infinity War. But with The Avengers going intergalactic with their third movie, does that mean a key player from Guardians of the Galaxy will take the helm?

Will Iron Man Try & Kill The Winter Solider In 'Captain America 3?'

There were rumors going around during the time of Guardians' release that director James Gunn could take over for Joss Whedon on the third movie. But with the news about Civil War playing a major role, new rumors surfaced that Captain America 2 directors Anthony and Joe Russo would take over.

With the Thanos storyline taking over for the third movie, and the fact that he could have a bigger role in the second Guardians movie, it could mean that Gunn would be the right choice to take on this intergalactic story rather than the Russo brothers.

How Does The 'Captain America 3' News Affect 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2?'

Not that the Russo brothers would do poorly, but with how well Gunn was able to capture space and the openness of that world, it would seem more logical to let him take over for Whedon, if the director decides to move on.

During the Tuesday event, a teaser was shown that hinted at what would come about during the newly titled Infinity War and the Infinity stones that Thanos would have to uncover to gain the power to face the Avengers.

The trailer showed images of the Aether from Thor: The Dark World, Loki's staff from The Avengers, and the orb from Guardians of the Galaxy with an image of Thanos wearing the Infinity Gauntlet.

Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1 is released on May 4, 2018.
