He surprised his family by announcing he had gone to New Orleans without telling them, but that won't stop Mel (Melissa Joan Hart), Joe (Joey Lawrence), Lennox (Taylor Spreitler) and Dani (Jada Facer) from trying to still celebrate Ryder's (Nick Robinson) birthday to their best ability on Melissa and Joey.

Mel and Joe's Marriage Is Tested By Baby Issues

Unfortunately for them however, things aren't likely to go as planned-and their failure at surprising Ryder with a great video chat birthday wish appears to anger and upset Mel.

"Well that was underwhelming," she says to her husband, niece and step-daughter in the clip.

In addition to things not going well the first time they try to wish Ryder a happy birthday though, things seem to be getting tense in the house-as Lennox and Dani appear to also get into a bit of a scuffle while hanging out on the living room couch.

However, Mel will try to rescue the situation-and try to get things to go more smoothly in the effort to wish Ryder a happy birthday -by taking control of things yet again so things go as she hopes and wants.

"ANY QUESTIONS?" she screams in the clip.

Previously on the show, things appeared to get tense for a bit between Mel and Joe as the newlyweds tried to determine if they were genuinely ready to have a baby together-despite already raising three teens between Mel's niece and nephew and Joe's recently discovered daughter.

Melissa and Joey airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC Family.
