Lady Gaga is known for stirring interests with her varying costumes and styles. Each seems to have a different message that people have a hard time understanding. But her latest hairstyle was done not for a performance or the paparazzi, but as a tribute to a friend.

Gaga recently shaved her head to pay tribute to Terry Richardson whose mother had passed away.

Richardson, a photographer, has worked with Gaga since 2010 where he started shooting behind the scenes footage of the performer on tour.

On Tuesday, Richardson announced that his mother, Annie Lomax, had died. Not long after hearing the news, Gaga took to the razor and shaved the back of her hair to show her support.

Gaga posted a photo of the new hairdo on LittleMonsters.com which is said to resemble Richardson's hairline. "I did it for u Terry," Gaga wrote on her site. "I'm sorry about ure mommy. She has princess die, but were all princess high."

Some of Richardson's previous work includes taking pictures of stars and celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Kate Upton and Beyonce. Before his mother died, he posted pictures on Tumblr of her last days before she passed away.

The coffee table book "Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson" was released with hundreds of candid pictures. Many of the images captured shows Gaga through her Lollapalooza event in 2010, her appearance at the Grammy Awards in 2011 and conclude with the end of her "Monster Ball" tour.

Lady Gaga, or as her fans know her as Mother Monster, continues to show the public that her styles are meant to send messages. This latest message shows that no matter how successful the "Poker Face" singer may be, she's still a supportive friend to the people she cares about. That's a message everyone can understand.
