It failed to get the desired ratings in the United States and was cancelled after only 13 episodes, but there may still be some hope for fans of the short-lived Red Band Society who are trying to revive the show.

'Red Band Society' Exec Shares How Show Would Have Been Different If Not Cancelled

The U.S. version of the show (based on a Spanish original Polseres Vermelles) aired its final episode on FOX in early February, devastating those who had grown attached to the stories of several sick kids living in an L.A. hospital. However the success of another version of the show, currently airing in Italy, may help spurn more interest in the American version once again.

According to Variety, the Italian version of the show, Braccialetti Rossi, now on its second season, has been dominating Sunday night primetime in the country, averaging 6.47 million viewers and a 23.3 percent audience share-a stark contrast to the American show which attracted 4.1 million viewers for its season premiere, but steadily declined afterwards.

After airing the first ten episodes, FOX removed Red Band from the schedule until announcing that the final three episodes would air in early 2015, after which the show would be cancelled.

Reportedly, despite the low ratings, FOX did not want to initially cancel the series, trying to move it to a summer run and re-tooling it to no avail. They also later allegedly tried shopping the show out to other networks, but failed to succeed at that as well, leading to the heart-breaking decision to officially cancel.

During the time FOX was considering the show's fate a strong social media campaign also emerged from fans hoping to save the show, which included an attempt to get FOX to reconsider cancelling via a change.org petition, which received over 36,000 signatures.

It is unclear if the success of the show's foreign counterparts could inspire a revival.
