More and more information is being shared about the forthcoming season of Grey's Anatomy, which is sans Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).

Meredith Gets To Tell Story 'Of Losing A Spouse' In 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12

The loss of Derek in the last season will continue to follow Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), but she will find herself and move on.

While at the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour, TVLine learned from showrunner Shonda Rhimes that this season would be a "rebirth" for Meredith.

It will also carry "a much lighter tone" compared to all the drama that scorched through last season.

"Meredith is single and she is living this life that she's never thought she'd be living again. She's living in a house with her sisters. She's surrounded by women who are dating and having a whole life and she's not interested in all that. [Meredith is] starting to wonder is there a second life here or are your best years behind you? I guess the theme [of Season 12] is rebirth. That evolution for that character is beautiful," Rhimes explained.

E! News further reported that the showrunner has "not planned to [introduce a new love interest for Meredith yet]."

"That's not really the focus of what we're doing with her right now," she added, explaining exactly what she told the other outlet about this "rebirth."

"Meredith is in a rebirth and she's evolving. I'm watching the character do what the character's doing and I'll see where it goes," Rhimes dished.

So viewers don't have to worry about Derek being replaced in Meredith's life just yet. Though Derek could never actually be replaced, but down the line Meredith could potentially find love again.

Grey's Anatomy will premiere its twelfth season on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
