The Fresh Prince is coming to TV again, and Will Smith will be helming the project, albeit probably only in the capacity of a producer.

TVLine is reporting that the development of the reboot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air is only in its initial stages and co-producers include James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith. The iconic show which premiered in 1990, launched Smith's acting career and carved a very special place in pop culture. Interestingly enough, the show seems to be returning at a relevant time, especially with the recent debate about race in America and also a degree of dissatisfaction with the representation of African-Americans on television. The whole idea of Smith and crew revisiting that dialogue with oodles of wit and humor would be undoubtedly refreshing.

Nothing has been revealed about the cast of the show yet, but Smith's son, Jaden, could make for a fine candidate. Although Jaden hasn't done any film work recently, his acting chops as a child actor in the Pursuit of Happiness had us floored. Anyway the family -- Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith -- seems involved in the project, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Jaden were to take the baton from dad.

TVLine also revealed that NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt seemed open to talks about taking on the show, suggesting that he would "be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it."

Time to get jiggy with that good ol' theme song:
