Ty Pennington will be hosting a new show called "American Journey". TV network HLN announced Wednesday that host of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will be hosting the monthly series which will focus on unusual lifestyles.

"American Journey" will debut Saturday, Jan. 12. Each new episode will air every month and will be shown multiple times over the weekend.

According to AP, the early episodes of the new show will feature lobstermen and Delta blue musicians.

Pennington is best known as the host for the Extreme Makeover series, which saw deserving families have their run-down homes transformed in just seven days. Pennington used his carpenter and design skills and was the leader of the eight-person design team for the show.

Each episode featured a family facing hardship who were indeed in need of hope. The producers of the show coordinated the construction of a brand new home for the family, giving a complete interior and exterior makeover in just seven days while the family went on a paid vacation. Some houses were completely destroyed and rebuilt.

The popular show came to an end in 2011, with Pennington having helped rebuild over 200 homes during his time on the show.

His follow-up show "Ty's Great British Adventure" is currently being aired in UK.

Apart from being a host and carpenter, Pennington also had a stint at modeling for J. Crew, Sprite, Coke, Levi's and Macy's during his college years.
