Prior to the release of This Is What The Truth Feels Like, Stefani opened up about her rocky 2015, which included the end of her 13-year marriage to Rossdale, the father of her three sons, and the start of her relationship with Shelton, her co-star on The Voice.

"I think that when you go through what I went through, or what I’m still going through, you think you’re hopeless. You don’t know what’s going to happen,” Stefani said in an interview with Refinery 29 on Tuesday.

Late last year, Stefani released the first song from her album, "Used To Love You," which is believed to be aimed at Rossdale, who was accused of cheating on her with their former nanny, Mindy Mann. A short time later, she shared "Make Me Like You," which she confirmed was in reference to her romance with Shelton.

After splitting from Rossale, Stefani said she found a friend in Shelton, who had split from his wife, Miranda Lambert, weeks prior.

“It was a really super-unexpected gift to find a friend, somebody who happened to be going through the exact same thing as me, literally mirroring my experience,” Stefani explained.
