Damon Dash is back in the spotlight after starring in WeTV’s Growing Up Hip Hop earlier this year. And so now that he is working on other projects, his history with the late singer Aaliyah has also come up as a topic of conversation. And, for the first time, he's explained how things would have been different if he was there the day Aaliayh died in a tragic and shocking plane crash.

Dash, who now stars in VH1’s Family Therapy, stopped by The Real Tuesday and broke down what happened in Aaliyah’s final days. He spoke on a statement he made on the series that Aaliyah’s passing along with his mother’s turned him into a “monster.”

When Jeannie Mai asked if there was any possibility Dash could have been on the plane. He gave a shocking answer.

“There’s no chance if I was there we would have been on that plane. Aaliyah and I was in Miami…,” he said before adding that video director Hype wanted to take the video to the Bahamas, which Dash did not agree with.

Dash said because of other family commitments along with the drama surrounding custody of his child, Boogie Dash, he couldn’t go to the Bahamas.

“I was against it,” he said before he revealed that Aaliyah told him she didn’t feel comfortable getting on the plane.

He said he advised her not to board it, but she felt obligated to.

“If I was there, I would’ve made sure that the jet that was supposed to be for her… she would have been on that. I wouldn’t have gotten on that plane. But everything happens for a reason. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You just gotta deal with what live gives you.”

Watch it for yourself.
