The tension comes to a head on Fox’s Empire as Jamal Lyon (played by Jussie Smollett) fights for his life and the family tries to tie up loose ends from all of the drama that overtook them this season.

In a first look of the now highly anticipated season finale, Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) comes face-to-face with Freda Gatz (Bre-Z) after she tried to shoot him during the ASA Awards in Wednesday night’s episode. But she was thrown for a loop when her good friend Jamal stepped in front of the bullet, despite his own issues with Lucious, and she accidentally shot him instead. Still, Lucious makes his way to visit Freda in prison and asks why she attempted to take his life.

“You know why,” Freda said. Freda found out just moments before taking the gun from a police officer, that Lucious was the one who killed her father, Fred Gathers, while he was behind bars.

But that’s only the surface of the drama that is set to explode.

In another scene Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlyn Doubleday) confronts Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) for pushing her down the stairs when she was pregnant with her and Andrey Lyon (Trai Byers)’s child. While Rhonda had already hinted to Anika that she knew Anika was the reason Rhonda lost their child, this time around she got physical and yelled, “I know you pushed me down the stairs!”

It looks like Anika will go as far as taking her own life to avoid that drama and testifying to the FBI about Lucious’ murderous ways.
