The X-Files revival is primed for round two...but fans will have to wait at least a year for Mulder and Scully's next adventure.

Fox resuscitated the beloved series with a six-episode season back in January, and fans' reactions were overwhelmingly positive. There was, however, quite a bit of consternation surrounding the finale cliffhanger. Now that series creator Chris Carter, David Duchovny (Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Scully) are all in talks for another run, fans can breath a sigh of relief.

"We've had conversations with all of them that have included discussions of what kind of episodic order makes sense," Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman said, according to IndieWire. "Some of that will be driven by their schedules, how much time they have, but conversations are ongoing. I can tell you that Chris and David and Gillian would all like to do more of these, and certainly the network and studio would love to do more. So we feel encouraged by that. It shouldn't be anything you anticipate before the 2017-2018 season."

When the sci-fi spooker does return, we're hoping William will stroll back into the picture. "My Struggle: Part 2" left Mulder close to death, and, according to Scully, their son's stem cells are his only chance for survival. Just as those words past her lips, the good doctor was engulfed in the light of a bona fide UFO, leaving us wondering what's next for the agents.

There is one thing we know for sure - just like the truth, William is out there. Sadly, Carter isn't about to ruin the surprise.

"I can't tell you [where William is]," Carter teased in a post-finale interview with TV Line.
