Marina Krim Letter: Mother of Krim Children Murdered by Nanny Yoselyn Ortega Makes First Public Appearance
Marina Krim, the mother of Lulu and Leo who were stabbed to death by their nanny in an upscale New York apartment in October last year, has made an appearance for the first time since the tragic unnecessary death of her children.
The nanny, 50-year-old Yoselyn Ortega, was recently ruled fit to stand trial for the gruesome murders.
Marina and Kevin Krim's 2-year-old son Leo and 6-year-old daughter Lulu were found stabbed and bleeding to death
in the bath along with Ortega nearby who failed to kill herself by slitting her own throat. The couple's 3-year-old daughter, Nessie, was with her mother at the time of the killing.
Marina Krim's letter was read out at a Manhattan charity event Saturday which was held in honor of her late children. The Lulu & Leo Fund has been set up to raise money for children's educational programs.
The letter, which was not read by her, stated: "Five months ago, on an ordinary October day in New York City, I lost two of my best friends, my six-year-old daughter Lulu and my two-year-old son Leo. Nessie our middle child, just three years old at the time, became an only child. My entire existence was shattered.
"My simple charming old life, from the moment I woke up till the moment I went to sleep, revolved around my kids and I was extremely proud of that. Kids live in the present and we should too. My most magical moments with Lulu and Leo almost never involved material items. It was the look of pride I would see on Lulu's face when I would pick her up from art class. It was watching Leo's deep brown curious eyes track a caterpillar in the grass.
"My most important challenge is to remember and see the magic in the present every day."
She also referred to Ortega in the letter, saying: "She [Ortega] did a horrible, horrible thing. We just want justice - that's all we can hope for."
