Containment is over, but there are those who believe the series finale was not enough.

When we spoke to the cast at Wonder Con in March, the stars had high hopes for a season 2 renewal. The CW had other plans, however. Since the finale did not have white-knuckle cliffhanger built in, the high-stakes drama received the "limited series" treatment.

In other words, executive producer Julie Plec had a season 2 storyline all planned out. "Path to Paradise" didn't tie up all the lose ends - the cordon still exists, Jana (Christina Maria Moses) and Co. failed to escape, and life behind the walls is far from ideal - and, frankly, that would have been far too much for the finale to handle. Plec, however, would have loved to give Containment the ending it deserved.

"If I had known [about the cancelation] from the beginning, I would have finished the story," the Vampire Diaries' exec told TV Line. "I would have found a way to find a cure and see a sense of hope that the quarantine would be lifted. We got pretty close to that, coincidentally, so that's good. But I would have liked to see it go on for another chapter in order to tell the other half of the story."

So, what would season 2 have looked like? Well, the "cured" but contagious members of society would essentially find themselves inside their own mini cordon as the healthy members of society attempted to survive. Although society is humming along in the world at large, those behind the walls would have to learn to adapt to their apocalyptic conditions. From waste removal to education to love, Jake (Chris Wood) and Co. would have to find a sense of normalcy as Lommers' (Claudia Black) deadly creation died off.
