While Michael Phelps has certainly excelled in swimming on the Olympic level, there's one challenge he's not interested in.

Phelps is well on his way to winning even more gold medals at the Rio Olympics, proving himself to be one of the world's most dominant athletes. With this success and his star power, there's the subject of whether he would ever go into another physical endeavor: Dancing With the Stars.

So would he do it? Very unlikely, according to a source via HollywoodLife.com.

"Michael has been asked before (to do DWTS) and he was recently asked [to compete in] the upcoming season," the source reportedly said. "And though he has considered it, he doesn't want to do it; he wants his legacy to be in the pool and not on the dance floor."

Plenty of athletes have competed in Dancing With the Stars over the years, including some Olympians. Apolo Anton Ohno, Shawn Johnson, Kristi Yamaguchi and Meryl Davis all competed in the Olympics before going on to win their respective seasons of Dancing With the Stars. Other athletes that have won the competition include Emmitt Smith, Hélio Castroneves, Hines Ward and Donald Driver.

Of course, there are always cases where athletic success does not translate to a strong Dancing With the Stars showing. Such examples include Martina Navratiolva, Metta World Pace and Lolo Jones, who were all eliminated first in their respective seasons.

Dancing With the Stars has yet to announce its cast for season 23, but this is to be expected. The dance competition typically announces the cast of celebs and pros a few weeks before the premiere, so we should probably expect a big unveiling in late August or early September.

Dancing With the Stars season 23 will premiere Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
