Get out those Z-Whackers, folks. The Z Nation season 3 premiere is nearly upon us.

After last year's cliffhanger, Z Nation fans are itching to reunite with Murphy (Keith Allan) and learn the fate of 10K (Nat Zang). Those revelations will have to wait, however, as the fall run will open with a 2-hour flashback movie. Titled "No Mercy," the Sept. 16 special will travel back to season 2 in order to introduce the series' new big bad ahead of the Sept. 23 premiere.

"We're starting with what I like to refer to as a version of a Doctor Who Christmas special, we're starting with a little Apocalypse special," Anastasia Baranova (Addy) teased. "We're going back in time - I won't say when, but we are going back in time to sometime. Basically, there's a story in and of itself, but it also sets up what happens in season 3."

Z Nation will return to the present day in "A New Mission," which will function as the official season opener. Check out the episode summary below and find out what Syfy has planned for Warren's (Kellita Smith) Crew through episode 3.

Episode 1: "No Mercy"

Taking place during season 2, this 2-hour special has the gang protecting the town against a new enemy on Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. ET.

Episode 2: "A New Mission"

In the season 3 premiere, Warren and gang are taken prisoner, while Murphy escapes the sub with his newly formed group of blends on Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. ET.

Episode 3: "Murphy's Miracle"

Warren and team encounter the sole inhabitant of a strange town, while Murphy begins his new mission on Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. ET.
