Denise Richards Opens up on 'Toxic' Relationship With Ex-husband Charlie Sheen
Actress Denise Richards gets vulnerable about the "toxic" reason that ended her marriage with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Known as one of Hollywood's most dramatic divorces, Denise Richards filed for divorce from the former "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen after three years of marriage in the middle of her second pregnancy in 2005. Denise opened up about their past relationship in an episode of Dear Media's "Divorced Not Dead" podcast in August 10.
The actress remembers it as a "difficult" split, explaining that there were "many things" that led to the end of their marriage. Denise implied that more often were times that the couple had to put up a happy front amidst the struggles they experienced in their marriage.
"The behind-the-scenes stuff was way worse than what was out there," The 51-year-old actress explained. "It was really bad."
Ultimately, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star had a turning point when she asked herself, "Would I want my daughters to be married to this man?".
"No offense to him, but I think he would take that and understand what I'm saying," she continued. "It was very toxic."
Despite the couple's struggles with their marriage, they share the same love for their kids as the two had reconciled "for a very brief time" following the birth of their second child, Lola. Denise also mentioned that she doesn't regret marrying the "Two and a Half men" star, "because I really do feel that he and I were brought together to have our daughters."
However, Denise expressed how their relationship could not be mended from there. "I felt the most guilty splitting up the family unit. I struggled with that for years."
The actress added, "There is a lot that the public doesn't know, and you never know what goes on behind closed doors. It was not a good situation."

Finally In A Better Place
After Denise and Charlie's divorce, the actress went on to her second marriage with Aaron Phypers in 2018.
Despite the messy divorce that she and Charlie had to go through, the "Wild Things" star clarified that they are now "very close" and "good friends".
"To this day, Charlie does know he can call me at any time, no matter what," Denise said. "I don't care what he says or does, I will show up and be there because I always wanted him-and still do-to be the best dad for our daughters."
As of today, the divorced couple share three kids-Sami, 18 years old, Lola, 17 years old, and Denise adopted-daughter, Eloise, 11 years old.
