Princess Diana reportedly heard a strange statement from Camilla when she confronted her over her relationship with her then-husband, Prince Charles.

The fairytale story of Princess Diana and Prince Charles did not last long when Camilla entered the picture. The future king's infidelity became an infamous issue in the royal family, and it eventually led to a divorce.

Before that tragic ending happened, the Princess of Wales still tried to save their dying relationship by confronting Prince Charles' other woman - Camilla - at Annabel Elliot's 40th birthday celebration.

Princess Diana's former bodyguard Ken Wharfe appeared in the latest episode of the hit podcast "The Firm: Blood, Lies and Royal Succession" on Tuesday and recalled the heartbreaking night for the late royal.

According to Wharfe, he heard firsthand what the Duchess of Cornwall told Princess Diana.

"She said, 'Well it's all right for you. You've got two wonderful boys,' as if that might end the conversation and we'd all go back to normal, but, of course, it didn't. And if there was ever a chance of a reconciliation, now that opportunity had gone," he recalled.

She fought for their relationship until they finalized their divorce in 1996.

Right after they finalized their separation, the royal princess shared with her personal trainer and confidant, Jenni Rivett, that she only wanted to breathe for a while and not to divorce. However, Queen Elizabeth II urged the two to do it to avoid further damages.

"She loved Charles. She wasn't the one who wanted to separate or divorce. She was sad about it," Rivett told Yahoo's The Royal Box. "She wanted to be a loving wife."

When Princess Diana Finally Gave Up Prince Charles

After multiple attempts to save their marriage for Prince William and Prince Harry, the royal princess reportedly realized that everything between her and Prince Charles was over during a walk along the Dorset coast.

In Andrew Morton's 1992 book titled "Diana: Her True Story," he said that the Princess of Wales knew that "hopes for reconciliation with her husband were over" when her realization became a reality.

"It was time for the princess to take stock. She remembers the occasion well, driving out of the claustrophobia of Kensington Palace with its spy cameras, watchful courtiers, and prison walls to her favourite stretch of beach on the Dorset coast," Morton wrote.
