It was recently announced, that Chi McBride, who plays SWAT captain Lou Grover, on Hawaii Five-O, has been promoted to a series regular.

"Well, I know this sounds corny, but the only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason," McBride said in a press statement.

McBride character actually appeared on the original 1970s program. It was previously reported that McBride was only scheduled to appear in the first episode of the new season, but as the first teaser introducing his character was revealed, it seemed like the part would involve him playing a more substantial role on the show.

"It's always fun to dig back into Five-0 mythology and resurrect a character," the show's executive producer, Peter Lenkov, said to Entertainment Weekly about McBride's character. "Recently transferred to Hawaii from Chicago, Grover isn't easily sold on Five-0′s tactics, referring to the task force as: 'McGarrett and his merry band of do-whatever-the-hell-they-want.' What Five-0 does conflicts with Grover's own style of law enforcement. And that creates good conflict, so prepare for some combustive tension between the two this season."

While McBride's character is really tough and brings some discipline on board, he is also known for the comedic elements he brings to the show, particularly when it comes to his relationship with Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin). The latest episode of the show focused on the frustrating dynamic that Grover and McGarrett shared, as it ran with this tagline: "They hate each other but to stop these criminals they will have to work together."

Season 4 features a great list of other guest stars, such as Melanie Griffith, Nick Jonas, Rumer Willis, Terry O'Quinn, Carol Burnett, Jorge Garcia, Henry Ian Cusick and Rebecca DeMornay.
