The relationship between actors Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, which went public in early 2025, is reportedly encountering difficulties, insiders say. The couple, who reunited decades after first meeting and both recently separated from previous partners, are facing emotional strains amplified by ongoing tensions involving Jackman's ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.

According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, Sutton Foster is growing increasingly frustrated with the emotional demands that Jackman places on her.

"Hugh wants a mommy, not a girlfriend," a source revealed. "He needs constant validation, nonstop reassurance, and someone shielding him from conflict while he keeps playing the golden boy."

This dynamic reportedly mirrors the role Furness filled during her 27-year marriage to Jackman. However, Foster, described as ambitious, independent, and emotionally intelligent, is reluctant to assume the same caretaking role.

"She didn't sign up to become Hugh's full-time emotional support system," an insider said. "The deeper this relationship gets, the more she feels responsible for managing his feelings, his image, and the chaos surrounding him."

The couple's struggles are compounded by a reportedly chilly reception from Hollywood insiders following Furness's public expression of her feelings after their separation. Jackman is said to be blaming Furness for what he perceives as a social freeze-out by former friends and colleagues.

"Hugh's becoming increasingly angry over the feeling that more and more people in Hollywood are quietly turning against him," a source told Globe in May 2026. "He blames Deb for it 100% and says there's been a steady drip of poison behind the scenes from her and her camp."

Per Stylecaster, friends of Jackman who have distanced themselves include Naomi Watts, Russell Crowe, and Nicole Kidman. The actor is particularly concerned about how these developments are affecting Foster's reputation.

"He's very protective of Sutton and says it's incredibly unfair that she's being frozen out and judged by people who used to happily socialize with her," an insider added. "He says things have spiraled way beyond a normal breakup now and turned into a coordinated effort to isolate them socially."
