CBS has announced the premiere date for Under the Dome season 2, in addition to new revealing details about some major plot developments.

Under the Dome season 2 premieres Monday, June 30 at 10 p.m. on CBS, according to an official press release by the network Wednesday. Executive producer Brian K. Vaughn spoke with critics at the TCA press tour Wednesday about season 2. Stephen King (who wrote the novel on which the series is based) will be writing the season 2 premiere, which Vaughn noted as a good experience.

"The second season is going to take us places the book never got to go, he's bringing his own twists and turns. Stephen King gave us ideas we've never imagined," Vaughn said. "What's outside [the dome] comes inside."

Many new details about Under the Dome season 2 were revealed in the TCA presentation, including information on new characters.

Some of the new characters include Junior's (Alexander Koch) uncle, who causes trouble for Barbie (Mike Vogel), and a young schoolteacher who stirs things up with Big Jim (Dean Norris).

The presentation included a teaser trailer for season 2, which showed Big Jim kissing Linda (Natalie Martinez), though Zap2It speculates that it may have been a dream sequence.

There will also be some relatively significant deaths in the season 2 premiere, according to executive producer Neal Baer.

According to the EP, "No one is safe in this town" as two fan-favorite characters will die in the season 2 premiere.
