The revealing of the new Supreme on American Horror Story: Coven will be a surprising one, according to a new report ahead of the season finale.

The identity of the next Supreme witch to lead the coven will be surprising, according to a source close to the show via E! Online. The source claims that while the conclusion is "surprising," they are happy with the way things ultimately ended.

As for the candidates that could be the next Supreme, any of the remaining witches have a chance. While the show has suggested that the Supreme will be one of the girls, such as Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), Madison (Emma Roberts) or Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), there are older candidates in the mix as well.

Misty (Lily Rabe) has said that she does not want to be the new Supreme but she is still in the running as a possible candidate. Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) has not been suggested as a Supreme candidate but her visions could make her a valuable asset to the Coven.

Even Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) could find herself exhibiting all the qualifications of becoming the new Supreme.

American Horror Story Season 4 Ideas: Serial Killer Ed Gein; Jessica Lange Playing Mother?

The final episode comes down to the witches performing The Seven Wonders, a series of magical tests that prove a witch's power. While Fiona (Jessica Lange) appeared to have died in the latest episode, she may still have a trick up her sleeve and return in the season finale.

American Horror Story: Coven airs its finale on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. on FX.
