"It's my first experience with him so it's the only thing I know," Wahlberg said. "But he's just so passionate so hands-on. He's involved with every single facet of the movie-making process, and I've never seen anybody as far as a filmmaker who's more knowledgeable than him."

"It was thrilling for me," Wahlberg said. "And then for him to ask me to go and do Transformers was just a blessing."

In January, Bay revealed some information on the film, including Wahlberg's character getting involved with "alien bounty hunters." The film also stars Nicola Peltz and Stanley Tucci.

Wahlberg was nominated for an Oscar in 2007 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Departed. He was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2011 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in The Fighter.

Some of his most famous roles include Boogie Nights, The Fighter and Lone Survivor.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is set to hit theaters on June 27.
