Demonoid Down by DDoS Attack: Torrent Site Recovery is Coming Slowly but Surely
One of the biggest torrent sites, Demonoid, is still down after it was shut down due to a huge DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on July 24. Millions of users who use the site have been left frustrated since the site has been inaccessible since the attack and there is no clear timeline that indicates when the site will be back up.
"It started as a DDoS but then it caused a series of problems," the admin team from Demonoid told TorrentFreak. "These problems need to be fixed before the site can go back up, and it's a complicated fix this time."
Apparently there is only one member of staff who is working to resolve the server issue, therefore it will take even longer to recover the website.
"There might have been an attack from another angle, an exploit of sorts, but it's hard to tell right now without a full check of everything. Our human resources became limited in the last few months. All tech issues are handled just by me now and there is no one else to take the job. I'll fix the site as soon as possible, but it might be a while this time," the Demonoid admin told TorrentFreak.
It is not clear why Demonoid has been attacked, but this is not the first time that the website has been targeted by hackers. The site reportedly experienced another DDoS attack in April 2010.
Updates on the site's progress are being updated on Demonoid's Facebook. The latest update on August 1 reads: "Lots of hard work on the site all day, and trying to get a close friend of ours on a tv show, that takes place where he is from. Sort of like a small payment for giving us a big breakthrough with the server issues. busy day!"
Earlier in the week, they posted, "We got lots of companies helping us with the issues. And wouldn't you know it. It's one of the smaller overlooked ones that is helping the most."
