Anne Hathaway is one step closer to choosing the most important dress of her life.

The actress has chosen the designer for her wedding dress - Valentino Garavani, the founder of the fashion house Valentino, will make a custom gown for Hathaway's big day.

Valentino confirmed his role as the wedding dress designer to reporters at the New York City Ballet Fall Gala on Thursday night, saying he "did the dress" for Hathaway's nuptials.

The designer said he and Hathaway share a close relationship, which is why the actress asked him to create a dress for her.

"She's a very good friend of mine," Valentino said. "She's like my daughter."

Hathaway was also on hand for the ballet gala, and she posed with Valentino in a floral dress of his own creation.

Hathaway is engaged to actor Adam Shulman, who appeared in the 2007 film "The Dukes of Hazzard:The Beginning." The couple began dating in November 2008 and announced their engagement three years later in November 2011.

Hathaway choosing Valentino to design her wedding dress isn't much of a surprise. After she announced her engagement to Shulman, Valentino spoke about being happy for the couple and hinted he could be working on designs for the festivities.

"I am so happy for Anne. And I would do my best creation for her," Valentino said at the time. "She's a lovely person. She wears the clothes very, very well. So I would do something special."

Rachel Zoe, who has worked with Hathaway as the actress' stylist for almost seven years, told People that while Hathaway might have a hard time choosing the perfect gown, whatever she picks will certainly be a the right choice.

"It should be interesting," Zoe said. "She's so young and such a romantic. It will be a fashion 'moment' whatever she decides."
