There's going to be a new girl on Fox's hit New Girl.

Olivia Munn has been signed on to play the girlfriend of Jake Johnson's character, Nick.

It's too early to tell what the reaction will be for fans of the series, which just came back for its second season. Munn's appearance will cause tension in the show as fans are waiting to see if Nick will get together with Zooey Deschanel's "adorkable" character Jess.

Access Hollywood reported that Munn has signed to do a multi-episode arc on the series with her first appearance to likely air in November. The new character is said to be "sexy, earthy, charming," and will be able to "hold her own with the group."

Reality TV Magazine analyzed the need the producers of the show have with casting models for roles:

"It's not enough that main character Jess has a model for a best friend - or that the actress who plays that best friend (Hannah Simone) used to be a model. Nope, New Girl, needed a new crop of actresses-turned-models, which is why America's Next Top Model's Keenyah Hill and Project Runway's Olivia Munn were recruited to be love interests for Nick and Schmidt. Keenyah's role was ultimately recast, with Carla Gugino ultimately attracting Schmidt's attention, but it appears that once Olivia Munn joins New Girl, she'll stick around. The actress is set to start filming in the near future."

On Tuesday, Fox aired a special New Girl episode which came in at 5.3 million viewers at 8 p.m., then aired the official show for the regular time-period debut at 9 p.m. with 5.2 million viewers. Deshanel's 9 p.m. time slot for New Girl battled with NBC's new show Go On which received 7.3 million viewers. The new comedy starring former Friends star Matthew Perry was down slightly this week, but NBC will gladly accept this outcome against the return of New Girl with hopes the addition of Munn will prompt higher ratings.
