Is the next season of Degrassi: Next Class going to be different than how it is now?

'Degrassi' Producer Expresses Excitement For 'Next Class'

It's no surprise that the series has never been afraid to take on controversial storylines, but according to executive producer Stephen Stohn, they decided to run things a bit differently this time.

"We've always strived to be completely authentic," Stohn told Sunday's report from Deadline. "But over the past few years in particular, on the air we were getting pressure from executives to play it a little bit safer. Now this year we can tell stories of female masturbation. We can just go where the stories are."

New 'Degrassi' Cast To Have 'True Honesty & Vulnerability'

This gives insight on what the next season might be like and if the 'safe' route will be taken or not. But the important thing is that the show uses what is being mentioned.

"Our motto really is, 'If they are talking about it in the hallways of the schools around the nation, we have to be talking about it,'" the producer said.

Writer Sarah Glinski then mentioned how things haven't changed too much on the show, but when they do, they're treated differently.

"Many of the stories are very similar," Glinski said. "We're just talking about them in the way that teenagers talk about them today. I wouldn't necessarily say it's different."

Degrassi: Next Class is currently airing on Netflix. There is no word yet on another season following this one.
