Heading into American Idol elimination round Thursday night, only six contestants remain in the show and fans are speculating that the only male singer left in the competition will be eliminated and the girls will dominate the competition now.

If the only male contestant remaining in the show, Lazaro Arbos, 21, is eliminated today, American Idol Season 12 will become the first season in six years to crown a girl. Last night the contestants performed two songs, the first round they sang tunes writte by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and on the second, they performed songs they wish they had written.

While Arbos landed on the Top 3 spots on the previous episode, he failed to impress the judges on yesterday's episode and was outshined by the girls, according to Keith Urban.

Also remain in the competition, Kree Harrison, Angie Miller (noth at the top of the scores), Amber Holcomb, Candice Glover and Janelle Arthur.

The last female singer to win on "American Idol" was Jordin Sparks in 2007.

On Today's Top 6 Elimination show, Scotty McCreery and Kelly Clarkson are performing.

Watch the elimination show on Fox at 8pm. EST.
