Alec Baldwin's mother, Carol M. Baldwin, has died. She was 92.

Alec first confirmed the news on his Instagram account on Thursday, telling his followers that the Baldwin matriarch has passed in Syracuse, New York.

He also took his time to remember her life as a mother and philanthropist in the same joint statement.

"My mother taught me about second acts. And third ones, too. She spent the last 25 years of her life as a fighter and a champion for the cause to which she devoted so much energy. We are all enormously proud of her accomplishments," he said.

Carol M. Baldwin's cause of death remains unknown. But she suffered from breast cancer for years after she was diagnosed in 1991.

When she won against the dreaded disease, she participated in several Long Island-wide breast cancer support groups. She then collaborated with Shirley Strum Kenny to launch her Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund at the Stony Brook location.

Carol was survived by her six children, 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Hilaria Baldwin and Hailey Bieber left heartfelt comments on the post, sharing their love for the late philanthropist.

Carol M. Balwin's Cancer Journey

The Syracuse native spent most of her life as an adult as a homemaker in the Nassau Shores section of Massapequa.

Her death occurred years after her husband, Alec, died of lung cancer in 1983 and decades after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer starts when cells in the breast grow out of control. It can begin in different parts of the breast and spread outside the body part through blood vessels and lymph vessels.

In 1997, Carol told the Long Island and New York City news outlet, Newsday, that she cried hard after learning her diagnosis. She then underwent four operations in less than 11 months.

"I could see I was frightening my children, who had lost their father to lung cancer just a few years earlier, and I was frightening my grandchildren," she went on. "I absolutely think there's an environmental connection and we're going to find it."

She then started her major fundraising effort, with her initial goal was to raise $1 million. Fortunately, the amount was easily exceeded.
