In a surprise reveal, unreleased footage of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool was leaked online on July 28.

Was Edgar Wright Supposed To Direct Ryan Reynolds in 'Deadpool'?

Deadpool creator Robert Liefeld even confirmed that the test footage with Reynolds was indeed real. He wasn't surprised though that it took this long to find its way to the Internet.

"I've seen the footage about a dozen times over the years, but there is no recording allowed," Liefeld told Daily Super Hero on July 29. "You sit, you watch, you exit. I'm un-certain how exactly the footage was obtained and released," he continued. Liefeld also said that the footage was filmed approximately three years ago, but he hopes the leak won't prevent the film from happening.

Ryan Reynolds Still Attached To 'Deadpool' As Film Rumors Heat Up?

Although Fox at the time did not want to move forward with a Deadpool solo film, Liefeld is hoping that the positive reaction to the clip will help the movie come to fruition. "There have been some major executive turn overs at the studio level in recent years and I'd like to believe that the current regime is basking in the glow of the enormous success of X-Men Days of Future Past, far and away their biggest achievement to date for the X-family. Here's hoping they want to add Deadpool to the film library."

Today, Liefeld even tweeted how supportive he is of Reynolds still playing the role of Deadpool. "Now you see why I have never faltered in my support for Ryan, he is perfect. #deadpool"

Fox has now taken down the released footage of Deadpool.
