The makeup department for Penny Dreadful sure isn't short of work this month, suggesting plenty of creatures to come on the Showtime series this season.

Costume Fittings & Set Dressing Begin For New Episodes Of 'Penny Dreadful'

"Another brilliant day #makeuptesting @SHO_Penny @chriswking #makeupfx #prosthetics #PennyDreadful," key prosthetic makeup artist Sarita Allison tweeted to producer Christopher King on Thursday. King promptly reposted the message.

Some of the most detailed work went into creating the face for Caliban (Rory Kinnear) for the first season. This alone took a lot of careful application, which suggests he might just be getting more screen time in the new episodes. Caliban might finally get his bride in Season 2, which adds another lead which will require full makeup on a regular basis.

Of course Allison's statement could be refering to any variety of monsters, from vampyric creatures to Ethan Chandler's (Josh Hartnett) werewolf form. While Chandler remains the program's only known werewolf, Season 1 revealed numerous vampire nests, each complete with over a dozen vampires and a leading "master" who required head to toe makeup and prosthetics.

On August 19 Allison had boasted on Twitter that they'd started "lifecasting" for the Victorian supernatural drama, which is the process of creating molds based on human subject. Depending on the extent of this lifecasting, makeup artists could be preparing to bring more vampires to life, which would surely spell trouble for Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and his band of mysterious misfits.

Penny Dreadful returns to Showtime for a second season in 2015.
