Since reality star Bruce Jenner's 20/20 interview, the former gold medal Olympian has received a lot of support for his courageous efforts to open up about his transition, and now Law and Order: SVU writers are planning to use a transgender story for a new episode.

'Law & Order: SVU' Picked Up For Another Season

On Tuesday, showrunner Warren Leight spoke with Variety and confirmed that producers are planning an episode centered on a transgender teen for the upcoming season.

"We've already started our season 17 storylines. We're doing a story about a transgender teenager," Leight told the site.

"The world keeps evolving, and there are a lot of dark areas that we need to look at," Leight added.

Back in February, the SVU official Twitter account announced that season 17 was in the works, and fans around the world will be seeing their favorite New York detectives tackling more cases.

"Part of my challenge and everybody's challenge here is to keep it fresh and to not let a groove turn into a rut, and that can happen for any show at any time," he said. "Everyone here is really invested in keeping the show fresh and keeping the show on. We view every year's upfronts as a place to prove that we still deserve to be here."

Producers over at SVU aren't strangers to using real life cases as the fuel behind their enticing episodes and the Bruce Jenner transgendered inspired episode won't be the first ripped from the headlines installment.

Law and Order: SVU airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on NBC. As reported, the show has been picked up for another season, so be sure to check in for more updates on the cast and to find out when the new season will return.
