Agent Shot Woman 10 Times In California Patrol Incident
A Border Patrol agent in Southern California who shot and killed a mother after she hit her car into him fired his gun 10 times in an attempt to get the woman to stop, according to an autopsy report released Thursday.
Valeria "Munique" Tachiquin Alvarado, 32, suffered 14 gunshot wounds with some of the bullets possibly causing more than one wound, the San Diego County Medical Examiner said according to The Associated Press.
The autopsy by the San Diego County Medical Examiner determined the Sept. 28 death was a homicide and multiple gunshot wounds as the cause.
Alvarado, a mother of five, reportedly ran from a friend's apartment in Chula Vista when agents came with an arrest warrant for someone else. The reason Alvarado fled the scene was not explicitly stated in any report found at time of publication, but North County Times said that the apartment she fled from was "known for drug activity" by officials and Alvarado was on probation for a 2011 drug-related conviction. When agent Justin Tackett, 34, tried to stop her from fleeing the scene, she ran into him with her car and drove with him on the hood for about 200 yards before he shot enough bullets through the windshield to get her to stop, according to The Inquisitr.
Alvarado's blood tested positive for methamphetamine at 0.1 milligram per liter and was "presumptive positive" for amphetamines. Her family has since filed a wrongful death claim against the Border Patrol. Tackett had been suspended four times for misconduct, which includes crashing a patrol car and violating suspects' rights in the years that he worked as an Imperial County sheriff's deputy.
