'Agents Of SHIELD' Season 3: Is Fitz To Blame For Simmons Disappearance? EP Addresses Rumor

The first of Marvel's live action series, Agents of SHIELD was completely bound up in the storyline of Caps' last film, and after only minor involvement with Age of Ultron, the ABC drama may be ready to take on that weighty role once more.

With the theme of superhero government oversight sparking through both outlets, SHIELD executive producer Jeffery Bell thinks fan speculation is more than likely heading in the right direction.

"I can't say anything, but what you said makes sense to me," Bell said when Paste broached the subject. "I know that fans always like it when we find new ways to connect, so I think if there was a way for that to happen, that would be cool."

Does that mean the ATCU could have a role in Civil War? While Coulson is looking to recruit and protect Inhumans and their ilk, the Advanced Threat Containment Unit is undoubtedly singing a different tune. It certainly sounds like there will be rumblings of Civil War before the Sokovia Accords come in to play (if you don't know what those are, we've broken it down for you here).
