2012 Top Selling Car & What Will 'Dominate The Market' In 2013, Details
Which car did better than the others in terms of worldwide sales in 2012?
With the sales year drawing to an end Tuesday, Ford is confident its Focus model will be the top selling car worldwide when the final figures for the year come in since the automaker revealed that there were 737,856 Focuses registered through September. Close in second place was the maker's Fiesta model, which was at 560,061.
Ford is the only auto brand to surpass two million in U.S. sales since 2007, according to CNN.
"Focus and Fiesta represent the best of our 'One Ford' plan," said Jim Farley, Ford's executive vice president of Global Marketing, Sales and Service and Lincoln. "In just three years, Ford has transformed our global small car lineup and started winning over customers worldwide with vehicles that are not only fun-to-drive but also fuel-efficient - largely thanks to our award-winning EcoBoost engines."
In figures exclusively referring to Ireland sales, Ford was third in best-selling car brand in the country for the 2012 sales year. The Society of the Irish Motor Industry revealed the following figures: Volkswagen registered 10,073 new cars in 2012 (12.67pc market share) ahead of Toyota's 9,998 (12.58pc market share) and Ford with 8,592 (10.81pc market share).
Even with Ford's exceptional sales in 2012, Japanese brand compact cars are likely to "dominate the market in 2013," according to The Christian Post. A top-selling list compiled by USA Today ranked the Toyota Camry as the No. 1 in the market for the coming year based on year-to-date 2012 sales and determined estimates for 2013. Of the seven best-selling cars on the list for 2013, six are Japanese, including the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and the Honda Civic.
However, No. 2 on the best-selling list - and the only car in the top seven not a Japanese brand - continues to be Ford's F-150 two-door pickup truck.
