Is there any hope for Hypodermic Sally (Sarah Paulson) on FX's American Horror Story: Hotel?

We know from the premiere of American Horror Story: Hotel that Sally is essentially a ghost roaming the hallways of the Hotel Cortez. But we also saw Sally's recreational activity as an impulsive drug addict who essentially just wants to be loved at the end of the day.

Paulson broke down Sally's psychology in a new interview with Variety and whether there was any hope for her.

"We're going to find out later why Sally is the way she is, why she had her heart broken," Paulson explained. "And when you have your heart broken, people respond to it in all kinds of different ways. A lot of drug addicts will tell you you're constantly looking outside of yourself for something to make the pain stop. If you're a more evolved person, you know that can't come from an external source. It has to come from internal sources. But Sally doesn't know that. She was broken too early. I don't know if she can ever be saved, to be honest. She's looking at love to save her. She's looking for the drugs to help her forget. But when you can't leave the hotel, I don't know how you get saved -but maybe there's someone in there who can help her."

Luckily, next week's episode of Hotel will feature further exploration into Sally's story, particularly her background with Donovan (Matt Bomer) and Iris (Kathy Bates). AHS showrunner Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that episode 3 is "about the Iris-Donovan-Sally story, which takes even new dimension."

American Horror Story: Hotel airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
