NBC confirmed on Wednesday that it has renewed its hit soap opera "Days of Our Lives" up until September 2014. On the air almost every weekday in the United States since November of 1965, "Days Of Our Lives" has been an integral part of the success of daytime television.

"We are thrilled to announce that 'Days of our Lives' is not going anywhere. It is NBC's longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television," Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment said via statement, according to Access Hollywood

"We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year," she added.

The show's pickup is especially sentimental to Executive Producer Ken Corday, as his parents Ted and Betty Corday are the ones who co-created the Salem-based television program.

"After so many years in the homes and hearts of our loyal fans, I'm both humbled and elated to say it's 2013 and we're still going strong. I am equally proud that the sense of family which my mom and dad established in our show 48 years ago, is still what drives it today. As we celebrate our 12,000th episode with an amazing cast and great support from our network, we look forward to what's yet to come!" Corday said.

In its early beginnings, "Days of Our Lives" almost primarily revolved around the Horton family. As the show has evolved, several more families have been worked into the show and have led to more drama-filled storylines. However, the Hortons currently remain a fixture in both the show's continuity and success.

"Days of Our Lives" will air its 12,000th episode on Friday at 1 p.m. ET on the NBC network. Next year will mark the show's 48th anniversary.
