She's the heart of a major juicy storyline on Days of Our Lives, but fans could soon see the departure of Abigail because rumors claim Kate Mansi may opt out of renewing her contract with the show.

According to Serial Scoop, a popular star from the show whose contract goes up for renewal in a few months is planning not to sign on for more episodes, news that would devastate fans. The website wouldn't name the said star, but fans commented on it and one even linked to a list of dates for the show's actors with note on when their contracts are set to expire. According to that list, Mansi and Peggy McCay (Caroline) are both up for new contracts in December.

McCay has been with the soap since 1983 and it is unlikely she would suddenly leave now. Her character has been more in the foreground during the show's 50th anniversary celebration, but was mostly relegated to short one-episode appearances otherwise. If the contract in question does expire in December, that would leave only Mansi as a possible person set to leave.

If the character leaves, it could be for Abigail to deal with issues she faces in the aftermath of being kidnapped by her murdering boyfriend Ben (Robert Scott Wilson), who is set to exit the canvas any day now after he is officially revealed to be the Necktie Killer. Should such a storyline be done, it would open the show up to recasting the role and debuting a new actress in Mansi's place.

However, several other actors do have contracts expiring within the first three months of 2016. Kassie DePaiva (Eve) has already been confirmed to be exiting, but both Lauren Koslow (Kate) and James Reynolds (Abe) are also set to have contracts expiring in January. In March, Judi Evans (Adrienne), Wally Kurth (Justin), Peter Reckell (Bo), and Arianne Zucker (Nicole) are all due to either end or renew their contracts.

Of that group, the only one who would seem likely to potentially consider not signing their contract and renewing it could potentially be Zucker. Nicole is set to deal with a devastating loss before her planned Valentine's Day wedding to Daniel (Shawn Christian), whose character was already confirmed to be exiting in a death storyline.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
