Barcelona will face off against a tough Malaga side in what should be a highly competitive quarterfinals matchup of the Copa del Rey on Thursday. The winner of the game will go on to take on Real Madrid in the semis.

In its last match with Malaga, Barcelona drew with the club 2-2 in the first leg. Despite being in the midst of a record setting season overall, Barcelona has now played in two games without a single win. The football club followed up its initial tie with Malaga with its first loss of the season against Real Sociedad via 3-2 margin.

In order to move into the final four, Barcelona will need to pull out either a high-scoring draw or a win against Malaga. However, they'll have to do so without skipper Tito Vilanova on the sidelines, who will miss the contest due to having to receive cancer treatment in New York.

In Vilanova's absence, assistant coach Jordi Roura will be stepping up and is fully aware of the significance of the second-leg showdown with Malaga.

"[It is] the first decisive match, the first 'match-ball' of the season. It's not necessary to tell the players anything, they are aware how important the match is. I have no doubt that we'll give it our all, but this is football. I'm not sure the team will react well," Roura stated, according to International Business Times.
