Aston Villa lie in 17th place in the EPL having claimed just 20 points from their 23 games. In most seasons a record that bad would see them already in the relegation zone, however, as it stands QPR, Wigan and Reading occupy the bottom three spots, with Villa just a point above the drop zone.

Villa are likely to bring back Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor after they were rested for Friday's FA Cup game against Millwall, in which they were humiliated and knocked out.

The morale in the Villa dressing room is likely to be low, but they must raise themselves for a classic six-pointer at the lower echelons of the EPL table tonight.

Newcastle are doing only marginally better than Villa, and have 21 points from their 23 games. They lie in 16th position and just a space above Villa and just two above the drop zone.

Wigan and QPR are both playing tonight, and if Wigan can get a win against Stoke, then one of these two teams will drop into the relegation zone.
