Super Bowl 2013: Power Outage Followed by Ravens Win, MVP Joe Flacco Talks Victory
Following a monumental, more than 30 minute power outage during Super Bowl 2013 on Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens jumped, shouted and cried as they took home the Lombardi trophy against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Ravens led the way to a 34-31 victory with Baltimore quarterback and MVP Joe Flacco completing 22-of-33 passes for 287 yards and three first-half touchdowns Sunday. His contract with the team is up and he could command a new deal asking for roughly $20 million a year, according to ESPN.
Following Sunday's game, Flacco was asked about his future as a NFL player and he said, "I'm a Raven for life. That's the way I see it."
We gave the country a pretty good game to watch," Flacco added, after becoming only the sixth player in 47 Super Bowls to throw for three scores in a game's first half - he connnected with Anquan Boldin for 13 yards, Dennis Pitta for 1 and Jacob Jones for 56. Flacco also set an NFL record as a quarterback by leading to a team to playoff wins in each of his first five seasons with a NFL team.
"I tell you what: We don't make it easy," Flacco said. "But that's the way the city of Baltimore is. That's the way we are."
Center Matt Birk said about Flacco, "Joe's a stud. He showed it tonight."
The Ravens on Tuesday will participate in the annual after-Super Bowl parade in the team's hometown. The parade will begin at City Hall and end at M&T Bank Stadium, according to WBAL TV's Donna Hamilton.
Flacco's plays and the Ravens' victory came after the lights in the Superdome cut out, delaying action for more than a half-hour following Beyonce's halftime show. The reason for the outage has not been confirmed but when play resumed, San Francisco scored 17 consecutive points, redeeming themselves from the first-half of the game.
The Ravens put up a fight though, with two field goals by Justin Tucker, and a defense led by Lewis stopping the 49ers from a fourth-and-goal at the 5 mark.
