Patrick Dempsey Addresses Shonda Rhimes' Killing Characters Comment

The promo for the "TGIT" lineup was recently released, showing that Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) was hurt.

It turns out that holds some truth to it. TVLine reported from Pompeo's costar Kelly McCreary, the portrayer of Dr. Maggie Pierce, that Meredith would get attacked in the episode that kicks off the second half of the season.

Ellen Pompeo Regards 'Grey's Anatomy' Fans' 'Enthusiasm' Highly!

"Meredith is attacked, and it is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be," McCreary said, adding, "Get ready to have your guts feel like they're coming out of you, because it is truly harrowing."

Meredith has been through plenty over the seasons, including "a lot of brushes with death," but this is something she has never dealt with before.

"But this time is different because, as Sarah Drew [Dr. April Kepner on series] has actually pointed out, in other instances where Meredith came close to death, she has had a little bit of control over the situation. She could save herself in some way, or make a choice that might help herself," McCreary explained, adding, "But in this case she's physically impaired in a way that she has not been before."

"As bad as things have gotten for Meredith, this is bad in a whole different way," McCreary concluded about the Denzel Washington-directed episode.

Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. ET.
