American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy did not reveal the theme for the upcoming sixth season.

Murphy appeared alongside many of his cast members at PaleyFest Sunday night, speaking about American Horror Story: Hotel and more. Ultimately, many fans were waiting for a big season 6 announcement over anything else. Yet, in the end, there was very little learned other than a few vague details.

"The interesting thing about this season is we've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done," Murphy said, when asked about season 6. "So I don't want to say what it maybe is.... Both things that we're writing right now—we haven't declared a winner—will have a different form, so we're excited about that. We'll talk about it soon, but we haven't landed on it yet."

He did hint that both concepts feature "elements of children," adding, "If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying."

Murphy went on to liken American Horror Story to an opera, noting, "I think both of the things we're writing right now will have a certain feel. But, I think I know what the winner is."

The showrunner also revealed that "every darling person up here that wants to come back can come back." This includes Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Finn Wittrock and Cheyenne Jackson.

There was also some discussion about how the series is becoming increasingly interconnected, with past characters showing up in different seasons. This was particularly apparent in Hotel, which featured Paulson as Sally as well as her Murder House character, Billie Dean Howard.

"The deeper we go into the series we will see that it is a definite universe and all of the worlds are connected," Murphy said. "I think it's interesting that we had an episode where Sarah played two of her characters in one."

It remains to be seen when Murphy will announce the finalized concept for season 6, but fans continue to wait on bated breath.

American Horror Story season 6 begins this fall on FX.
