It seems that Drake just loves surprises—or at least he did last weekend while in Texas.

First, he gave a surprise set at SXSW on Saturday. And then on Sunday, he joined his good friend Jas Prince for the latter's birthday block party (which is becoming something of an annual tradition in the Houston's fifth ward neighborhood) and gave another, much shorter, unplanned performance.

According to news reports, along with the flood of photos and videos posted to Instagram, Drake, Prince and company lead the revelry of an estimated 5,000 party-goers from the roof of Mo Mo's Chicken and Waffles. Drake eventually jumped on the mic to give renditions of "Hot Line Bling" and “Big Rings” with plenty of help from the crowd, which you can watch below.

Drake and Jas Prince (whose father is James Prince, the founder/ CEO of Rap-A-Lot Records) go back a long ways. The story goes that Jas was the one who discovered Drake on MySpace and eventually hooked him up with Lil Wayne, which would in turn lead to his record deal with Cash Money and launch his rap career.

Meanwhile, Drizzy is set to drop his newest album, Views From the 6, sometime next month, though the details have been pretty scant. During his performance at SXSW, the "Best I Ever Had" rapper was reported to say “Views From the 6 coming in how many weeks? I hope you enjoy that s*it.”
